Growing up
1) Hardy boys, famous five by Enid Blyton
2) James hadley chase , I still love reading them , short ,furiously paced and gripping crime thrillers.I havent left any of them.
Even the titles are so catchy , when the cookie crumbles, Goldfish have no hiding place ,Hit them where it hurts,Like a hole in the head etc
3) Novels by gardener -Perry mason, I loved the arguments by the lawyer, courtroom drama ,again all his novels had me hooked right till the end
4) Alistair Maclean - His novels were truely addictive in true sense of the word
In early college
1) Sidney Sheldon: I liked the way he weaved his stories and typical masala filled novels
2) Harold Robbins: Yes, the initial hook-ups were the explicit contents ,but lateron turned quite predictable
3)Robert Ludlum : The conspiracy theories etched seems so accurate and real and maybe it was these novels that educated me about many political aspects(KGB,CIA,Mossad etc) and I learnt many new things about other governments etc . Eventhough all his stories seems a figment of wild imagination ,but the details are thoroughly researched ,but would 911 conspiracy seem real if someone had predicted it before 2001?
4)Jeffery Archer: Another master story teller
And some typical novelists which everyone have read at one point of time or another :
Robin cook (especially Coma),Crichton,Grisham (another influential author and his courtroom narrations were just mesmerising).
Let me list some indian writers:
Then there are some one novel wonders ,like God of small things by Arundhati Roy,whoa ,mindboggling is the word. She captures the minutest of the minute details about the society in fine detail and this novel was more than a story about 2 lives. She embossed the whole era ,the political fiefdom ,caste system , the scenic beauty of backwaters in Kerala and so many other things, quite engrossing. This was the first Booker award winning novel ,I ever read and it was truely an eyeopening expereince.
Train to pakistan by Khushwant singh ,is quite interesting with his slang all holds barred language and quite an education about the partition era.I generally like to read Khushwant Singhs outrageous articles .
List is incomplete,I still have a huge pending list to finish.
